Last night, I had a dream that I was speaking with God. The light was so brilliant it was practically blinding me, but it was simply too impressive to look away. He told me that He had a word that someone needed to hear. I’m not sure why or by who, but I will share it here and pray it reaches the person it needs to. Maybe it is meant to break a prejudice, maybe it is meant to call you into action, or maybe it is simply to see the wonderful freedom of the Gospel and joy that comes with serving a faithful God that is catering and understanding of our needs. Either way, I implore you to listen.

The reason drug addicts and homeless people have the potential to become some of the strongest faith wielders out of anyone else is due to the simple fact that they have walked through some of the lowest valleys man can witness. They become slaves to circumstance and chasing the next high. They walk around with the label worthless outcast. They receive the treatment of lesser than a human. Their only true community receives the same treatment. In reality, they are doomed from the start.

Then He told me something rather interesting. First with a question, but are they really so different from everyone else? Chasing after the next best high isn’t all so different from chasing after that next promotion or that next pay raise or that next personal record, is it? Our addictions and our enslavements have been considered better for the simple fact that at least we are contributing to society. Don’t get me wrong work is a good thing. However, how are we to judge which group is in deeper slavery? Both are serving their own desires. Both are in their flesh. And, some of you are sitting there saying to yourself that you are simply following the calling that God put on your heart. If He told you directly and you have no conviction of it in your heart, then this is not directed at you, but isn’t the question worth asking? The question of, “am I actually following Your will rather than the one I made for myself because it is easier?” As a Christian, I don’t think this question should ever stop.

However, there is one key difference between the groups that God outright spoke to me in this dream. The sad truth is, “One group knows that they are slaves to themselves and the world (even if they don’t want to admit it) and the other is simply oblivious to it entirely.”

 Lastly, he spoke Psalm 86 over whoever this is for. I ask that you reading this do not discount any of these words. Listen to the God of the Universe. He is alive and He will speak to you in this. Listen for even the quietest whisper in your mind could be His calling for your entire life.

Psalm 86

“Hear me, Lord, and answer(A) me,

    for I am poor and needy.
Guard my life, for I am faithful to you;
    save your servant who trusts in you.(B)
You are my God; have mercy(C) on me, Lord,
    for I call(D) to you all day long.
Bring joy to your servant, Lord,
    for I put my trust(E) in you.

You, Lord, are forgiving and good,
    abounding in love(F) to all who call to you.
Hear my prayer, Lord;
    listen to my cry(G) for mercy.
When I am in distress,(H) I call(I) to you,
    because you answer(J) me.

Among the gods(K) there is none like you,(L) Lord;
    no deeds can compare with yours.
All the nations you have made
    will come(M) and worship(N) before you, Lord;
    they will bring glory(O) to your name.
10 For you are great(P) and do marvelous deeds;(Q)
    you alone(R) are God.

11 Teach me your way,(S) Lord,
    that I may rely on your faithfulness;(T)
give me an undivided(U) heart,
    that I may fear(V) your name.
12 I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart;(W)
    I will glorify your name forever.
13 For great is your love toward me;
    you have delivered me(X) from the depths,
    from the realm of the dead.(Y)

14 Arrogant foes are attacking me, O God;
    ruthless people are trying to kill me—
    they have no regard for you.(Z)
15 But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious(AA) God,
    slow to anger,(AB) abounding(AC) in love and faithfulness.(AD)
16 Turn to me(AE) and have mercy(AF) on me;
    show your strength(AG) in behalf of your servant;
save me, because I serve you
    just as my mother did.(AH)
17 Give me a sign(AI) of your goodness,
    that my enemies may see it and be put to shame,
    for you, Lord, have helped me and comforted me.”
