What a month it was in Serbia!
Three weeks at Kamp and a debrief in Belgrade to wrap up month one of this amazing journey.
I can’t even begin to explain how much growth I have seen in just one month. Both personal and spiritual. Team Atlas got to dive into community together and become vulnerable with one another. I got to help with a sports camp, an American football camp, and developing relationships with campers. Diving deep into their values and how they got to Kamp Mrcajevci. The relationships I created made it very hard to leave but I expected goodbyes to be hard every month.
Being one of the logistics coordinators, means that I get to plan a 4ish day vacation, with the help of one other squad member! Caleb and I heading to debrief to prepare everything before the rest of X Squad arrived.
Debrief was set in Belgrade, Serbia. Let me tell you, Belgrade is packed! Two million people packed inside of a college campus… okay not that extreme but crowded.
We had everything squared away, except for a meeting space. We had about 12 hours to figure out a spot for 47 people to meet up in an air conditioned room with a projector. Easy right? Wrong. The first thought that came to my head was “You think we could meet in a lecture hall at The Belgrade University” after talking to the Dean and several other staff members we got shut down. Next we tried a hotel conference room. We walked into a hotel where it cost $156 per night… what were we thinking? The man we talked to, told us that it cost about $400 per day to rent out one of their rooms. We explained that we had a budget of about $50. Soooooooo, what can you do for us? He said he would have to talk to his boss and let us know. Walking away we began to pray that something would pop up and this meeting space would get taken care of. About 5 minutes of walking we get a call from the Nikola, the man from the fancy hotel. He explains that he can rent the room to us for $75 per day… WHAT?!? We turned and ran back to work out all the details. It ended up being an amazing meeting space and something God took complete care of.
The rest of debrief was the bomb.com. We went to the zoo and just relaxed.
Now being settled into Romania for a week or so, I have already found myself in love with the town of Alba Iulia. It. Is. Beautiful. The people are so friendly and our ministry is a perfect fit (more to come in later blogs). Stay tuned for more updates and stories next week.
