Lago de Atitlán, Guatemala

On the first day, You spoke this light into being

The light that surrounds and offers clarity

On the second day, You spoke that blue sky into being

The sky I see above and below in the water’s reflection

On the third day, You spoke that lake, the volcanoes, and mountains into being

And you made the foliage that covers them

On the fourth day, You spoke that sun into being

The sun that warms and keeps me alive (as Lexi likes to remind me)

On the fifth day, You spoke the birds above and creatures below into being

The creatures in the lake that we don’t want to think about

On the sixth day, You spoke my incredible community into being

The people with whom I love, serve, and jump off forty-foot ledges

On the seventh day, You rested

And this week I did the same

And it was so good.
