And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him. Romans 8:28

I’ve heard this verse and loved it for a while, but recently came to understand exactly how that works. As they say, hindsight is 20/20. Which in this case, hindsight is about 6 years ago. My first semester of college at Texas A&M University in Galveston I was given a roommate for my dorm. This turned out to be the type of roommate everyone fears they will get. He was terrible, but even then God used him in my life to further His kingdom. I can still remember the moment when he walked into our dorm room one afternoon after we had known each other for a whole 2 days and stated. “I signed us both up for a flag football team, I hope you’re ok with that.” Awesome, don’t you love it when you are involuntarily signed up for stuff and told afterwards? But since it was college, I rolled with it.

The first practice commenced and everyone of the team introduced themselves. The captain of the team was Chris Cummings. He and I instantly hit it off since he was from the same part of Texas and we had actually played each other in high school football and not known it After a few more conversations and practices I learned that he was a strong Christian and our bond became even stronger. Chris, myself, and a couple of other people from that team would later go on to create a missions organization on campus and take several mission trips together throughout the year. The roommate did not stay in the picture long. So there you have it. Gave even uses inconsiderate roommates to His glory so long as we are willing.
