This month i heard the voice of God as clearly as piano tuner in a silent room. As part of our ministry i was volunteered to build some shelves for some metal shelving units. Once the project was given to me i immediately had my doubts about how i was going to do this. When i mentioned to the director of equisol that I had been in construction there was a miscommunication and he believed i had built buildings before with my own two hands when in fact everything i have built has been the result of phone calls, emails, and contracts. Needless to say I’m not a carpenter, but i decide to saddle up anyway.
The first part of building anything is assessing the rescouse requirements and acquiring materials. The director asked me to take measurements and have them ready to go out and give to a wood shop. So I did. Only i did it as any American would, which was in standard measurements of feet and inches. The next day the director and I got on his scooter and set out to get materials. We stopped at the first wood shop and attempted to hand over the measurements. Turns out the rest of the world uses the metric system and my measurements were instantly rendered useless. The director and the carpenter talked for a moment and then we were off again on the scooter to a place i didnt know. As we made are way between cars and up on sidewalks i began to pray with all honesty. I told God i had no idea how to build these shelves and no idea how to find out how to build them using the resources in a place which uses the metric system, has no Home Depot, and where no one speaks any English. It was as that moment on the back of a scooter that my life became still. Every thought and every emotion was silenced. I felt an all encompassing calm and a single thought came to my mind in the stillness. “Cole all you have to do is be willing. I will take care of the rest.” It was the voice of God as undeniable as gravity. The next stop we made was at a millwork shop. The director made a deal with the company and all that was required is that we bring them dimensions in metric and they will make all the cuts we ask. God saw my strength of directing construction and made it work for His glory.
Thank you Father that you would use me for your glory. As long as you call, i will saddle up. And i will never never never quit so long as there is breathe in my lungs for it is no longer I who live, but you who live in me.
