Soft music played in the background, as the women of our team knelt before former sex slaves. We all looked up at women of high courage, and extreme beauty. The men placed buckets of warm water in front of us filled with soap. We began washing their feet, one at a time. As we finished washing, we would gently dry them. Cole and Andrew came after us as we washed. Both were holding a small bowl filled with oil. Dipping their fingers in it, they would anoint the Asha women and pray over them, holding their hands. It took courage and vulnerability for these women to accept and even embrace their brothers touch. But all that could be felt in that room was love and all that could be heard was the gentle sobs and sniffles coming from our team and the women. It was extremely intimate as we all embraced the Spirit in love and openness. We prayed aloud, warrior style over the whole group. Only Cole noticed when Kapita, the woman we had his hand on started swaying. He quickly reached out and grabbed her as she fainted. He caught her just before she hit the floor. No disturbance was made as we kept showering life over them through intercession. When ‘amen’ was finally said, we all had tears running down our faces. Tears of joy and thanksgiving. Tears of deep love being poured out on our family. We all stood around and smiled, no one sure what to say. We had all experienced something new and so special, words could not describe it.
Isaiah 61: 1-3
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord had anointed me to preach the good news to the poor, He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion- to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor
