“My Secret Place- A really large patch of grass and what a gift it is. Living in a big city, they are few and far between, not easy to find- especially if I just want to lay on it and reflect on your goodness. But, the one. The one patch of grass that overlooks the city, while also is quiet enough that I can hear the birds chirping. The one where you so kindly send the local stray dog to sit with me. The one where sometimes you speak very loudly, and sometimes you speak with a subtle whisper. I am the most thankful for it all, truly. Oh Father, you are too good to me. You are mine- I am yours, forever.”
A journal entry I wrote this morning as I was sitting in my secret place. Do you have one? Do you know what it is? Truth be told, I had never heard of it until month two and in South Africa when Acacia, my Alumni Team Leader spoke about it. She explained it this way: A place where you can get away, mentally or physically, that you can sit with the Father- just you and Him. A safe place in which you can always go to find rest and He will be there. For some, it could be a beach. For others, it could be the mountains. For me? Just a green patch of grass.
As many of you know, I babysit at home- a lot. My main squeeze, Joey, has Snoopy quotes all over the room and one says, “Happiness is…. Walking in the grass in your bare feet.” YES! THAT! IS! ME! While being on the field, I have found so much joy in the small things such as ice or a shelf for my belongings or in this case, a green patch of grass. I want to make it clear that although this is a really sweet place for me to meet God, He is absolutely not limited to this space. Some of the times I have heard Him most has been in a kitchen or while weeding a garden and my circumstances have not been all that glamorous, but He is still the same God- yesterday, today, and forever.
So, I would love to know- do you have a secret place? I am the most thankful that the Father goes all places with me, but am also thankful for small getaways with Him- just us. Find that place, your safe space. Share your heart with Him, thank Him for His goodness, and just BE with Him.
