A Slight Reunion!!!
Today, I have been able to call some friends/contacts that I
have met over the World Race thanks to Skype!!!
First, I called my friend Medson Gama, our pastor and contact from
Zomba, Malawi, who runs an orphanage and is the bishop pastor over many churches
in his area, including Euro African Baptist Church, where he is the head
pastor! Medson was SO HAPPY to hear when I said, “It’s Colby!” I can
just imagine him doing his little dance, all 32 of those big white teeth
showing and yes, I HEARD his little squeal full of joy! Medson asked me about 5
times very quickly, “My friend, please pray for us!” I asked
about the church and he said the church is doing well… “Pray for
us!” I asked him about other things and we quickly chatted as it seemed
that he was rushing (he thought I was eating up his cell phone minutes! hahaha)
and he finally said, “Don’t forget us!” about 3 times! I told
him that no one has forgotten him, that’s why I was calling him, to let him
know that we are praying, that no one has forgotten and that we miss them
all!!!!! Please continue in prayer with us!!!!

Second, I called our ministry contact from Mafambisse, Mozambique, Peter
Charlie! You will see videos of him soon and learn quickly that he is
blind! Peter’s wife, Sheila, who was his eyes every single day and a great
working force behind the orphanage passed away on February 27th of this year
due to a sudden illness of malaria. This left Peter with 15 orphans and a 3
year old daughter. I told him that we were sorry to hear about Sheila and I
asked him how he was doing. He said that he is ‘ok’, that it was ‘sudden on
27th of February’ and didn’t say a whole lot more. He still seemed to be shook
up about that, as anyone would. But there is one thing I tell you about Peter
that has NOT changed, he asked me many questions and was so excited to talk to
me! It was great!!! Peter did give me an update that the orphanage: the kids
are all doing well and great and they were donated a sewing machine and he told
me that since March, they have been ‘generating income’ with it! He was very
excited about that and also to tell the children that I called! An interesting
fact about Peter and the orphanage is that I once asked him, ‘Peter, where do
you get all of your income from?’ His response was the best that I have heard
yet, ‘…from the Lord. We pray and rely on him to bring it in because HE is
our great provision.‘ As I know you will, keep these children and Peter in
your prayers!

The THIRD person that I got to contact was my friend Domingos Temane,
who I met with his daughter on the 24hr bus from Mozambique to South Africa. On
the bus, he started talking to Lucas and I and asked, “Do you think God
can heal HIV and AIDS?” Lucas and I looked at each other, smiled and
got on with one of the greatest conversations of the year! Later on, we learned
that Domingos himself has HIV along with his wife and had just lost a child to
it. Eventually, I asked if I could pray over him, and he very
quickly stood up on the bus for us to lay hands on him. Following this, it was
like a domino effect, where person after person asked for prayer!!! 🙂 Well,
today, Domingos went NUTS when I called him back!!!! You see, he had called my
American phone a few times but I couldn’t answer it because I would go broke,
so I figured that I would wait until I got internet! Domingos went even more
biserk when I remembered his daughter Diamond’s name!!!! Domingos asked
where I was, how I was doing and after I asked how he was, told me that his
struggle with ‘my problem… HIV (he said under his breath) is slowly
getting worse’. He told me that he was losing weight and it was slowly
getting him down. He was definitely in good spirits though! I got the chance
to pray over him again and I could just feel the smile on his face as he
said ‘thank you my brother’. We talked for a bit more, he told me that I had
made his day about 5 times, we said goodbye and then hung up! Please continue
to pray for Domingos and his family He and his wife have HIV and if I remember correctly,
none of his children do!
