He let me know tonight that I was in fact not black.?He went on to say that I was As Black As a Jacket that I was wearing. I think there is something to what he was saying….. 😉

Jeffery is a boy here at the Challenge Farm, who is in grade 8 and is 19 years old. I have had the privilege of teaching him piano this month. I was able to teach him because of one he wanted too but he also is top of class so the head principle does not mind him having extra curricular activities.

His dream one day is to become a missionary in many different countries including India and the United States. He is not willing to allow anything or anyone to stop him. During tutoring, which he only attends to tell the other students answers, he looked at one of my teammates and started preaching the word to her about having faith! I said, "dang… I could definitely learn a thing or two from this kid" in my head. As he sits there and talks, I am literally blown away from his extensive knowledge and FAITH!

This kid lived on the street from 2002-2009. He was beaten. He has been possessed by demons. His family deals in witchcraft. He used to be on drugs. He begged for food. He has been in jail. BUT now he puts all that aside and decides to make the grades and have the faith. This kid gets up at 3 in the morning to begin prayer with the older boys. He does homework from 3:30-5, has bible study from 5-6, and then starts the rest of his day, which includes school, bible club or prayer club, piano lessons, football (not American), taking care of the younger boys, and eating.

My background did not include any of the above including the part about getting up at 3 am…

I wanted to share with everyone the impact that this one kid has had on my life. He literally blows me away everytime I talk with him because of the extensive knowledge he has. He had everything going against him since birth but he has far surpassed all expectations that were given to him. He encourages me to continue chasing after my dreams

It just goes to show you. That it doesn't matter where a person is from or what kind of family they have. If they are willing… they can do anything put in front of them especially if given the chance.

(Side note)

I also found out tonight that the boys here at Challenge Farm enjoy eating bugs. He said, "that those bugs are not for dogs… those dogs for men." Jeffery took a bug, ripped the wings off, and put the bug in his mouth. I looked at co-team leader with laughter and a grossed out face. I never thought I would hear that phrase come out of a person's mouth. (HaHa)
