Guatever!

It’s halfway through my third month, and I’m just now posting about month two. Fail! I still haven’t figured out this whole blog thing. But hopefully you will enjoy this one.
Last month we had C Squad’s famous “All Squad” month in Quiche, Guatemala. “What does that look like?” You might ask. It looks like 44 tents sleeping in the front yard of a hospital. It was a lot of people, a lot of fun, and a whole lot of community. One of the perks was that we had 3 toilets and 3 showers! Hooray for running water. We also had a kitchen where each team would cook for 44 people each meal. It was great!

We spent each week at a different ministry. We partner with Agape in Action, and worked with the hospital, daycare, and did some field work in a near by town.
We assembled and distributed handicap bikes to anyone we could find that could use one. We also made it on Guatemala’s news channel because of the bike giveaway that awesome. It was the first time for many people to have a chance to move freely by themselves. They all seemed so happy to receive this free gift, and you could see that it would change their lives forever. We also had chances to prayed with them, and many others at the hospital. Quiche was a town full of awesome people.
The Daycare we worked at was a pretty crazy experience, but I learned a lot. This daycare was government funded, so it was a free service for the community. It was overcrowded and very low staffed. There may have been five workers, and at least a 100 children. They had like thirty babies and toddlers!!!!(I had no idea what to do) But each week we were able to bless the staff and offer a few extra hands. We played games, changed diapers, cleaned spaces, and fed babies all day. It wasn’t what I expecting to do on the race, but it was a ministry that stretched me. Ministry is just lending a hand to those in need, and letting them know that the Lord loves them. Let’s just say, when your holding crying babies, you have and opportunity to do a lot of praying. haha The kids were really fun.
Lastly, every team got an opportunity to go to a near by town, and work on clearing a field and a road. I got sick that week, and was placed on House Arrest(when your leaders tell you that you have to stay in the sick room and rest). So I didn’t get to take part in this ministry, but I heard it was a lot of work and a lot of fun.

Some other great things that happened this month were debriefs, leadership development classes, sessions with our squad leaders, and a devotional with Ervin. The C-Squad guys also prepared a Valentines Day celebration for our ladies World Race style and we also had an even called the Headlamp Olympics.
It was a month that stretched me, and a month that I will never forget.
