Greetings Race Fans!
We made it. We are in Peru. We left Lake Nicaragua
(7th largest freshwater lake in the world; largest freshwater island
in the world- the lake is 100 miles by 50 miles and the island is 18 miles
long!). Anyway, we left the Lake
at 10:30ish Thursday morning and caught our flight from Managua
at 3:45. We flew to Panama
and then to Peru. After getting through Customs, etc and then
driving over an hour across Lima,
we finally bedded down on the floor of our host church at about 3:00 in the morning (Eastern Time).
The race this morning was amazing. I’ll write more about it later this
week. Suffice to say that it took about
4 hours to complete and included about 10 tasks that each team had to complete
such as finding famous locations and taking pictures and then eating Cow
Hearts.
I actually didn’t race this time. I hung out with part of the Media Team and
tried to stay one step ahead of the racers.
From now on I will work outside of my usual team and try to spend more
time with the other teams.
Debrief was great.
Seth and Mary Beth and Jerry from the Georgia Office were with us and it
was a great time of encouragement. It
fell right in the middle of the anniversary of Kim’s passing last year. It was a difficult time but the racers
rallied around me in an amazing display of the Body of Christ. In the middle of them surrounding me with
their presence and comforting words I remembered where I was and what I was
doing last year on March 12 at about 8:00 p.m. I was surrounded by the BVBC Youth Group and
they were ministering to me with their presence and words of love.
It’s late and it’s been a long day. Pictures will be forthcoming when we get a
faster connection. There are stories
already from our time in Peru. It’s going to be an incredible month of
ministry here!
