This place is a zoo.
No. Really it is. The first day in Aguilar we were sitting in
front of the house while Turkeys
strutted back and forth in the road in front of us. I think we were encroaching on their
territory. The Roosters start crowing at
about 11:00 PM every night and then
continue throughout the night. We have
chickens in the backyard- if we leave the backdoor open then the hens will lay
an egg in the corner of the kitchen every morning. Now if we could only train them to start
boiling the water. We normally see
someone carrying a chicken under their arm at least once a day. We figure those chickens have a short
life-span.

Our host is a caballero- a cowboy. We see him riding up and down the street on
horseback a few times a day. The streets
are full of the laziest mutts you have ever seen. The joke is if you are afraid of them, just
pick up a rock and they will run away- apparently they are used to having rocks
thrown at them. They mostly just lie
around in the shade. I’ve only seen a
few cats. I’m not sure what that means.

There are also ducks and geese wandering the yards and
streets. Pigs are everywhere- large and
small. There are cows. And there are cow patties. Everywhere.
Every time we cleared another rise climbing the rock face we scared up
another flock of Vultures. We saw large
ants carrying even larger pieces of grass.
We had a Bat in the house last night.
That was pretty cool!

We’ve killed a few spiders.
Four of the girls are sleeping in their tents IN THE HOUSE. Pastor Samuel came by the house a few days
ago and we showed him a picture of the spider that Annie killed the first
morning we were here. His reaction to
the picture said it all- it wasn’t a big hairy Tarantula, but apparently it was
more dangerous.

So I missed “Charlotte’s
Web” before leaving the States, but so what- I’ve got the whole cast right
outside my door everyday!
