What was I doing in Ukraine?

Mostly just hanging out. The trip was sponsored by StudentLife as a “site visit” for youth ministers that will be taking students to participate with Radooga Camps next summer. We toured Radooga Camp sites- getting a feel for what the living conditions are. We helped the “Roadies” set up the Radooga Conference in Odessa (think- StudentLife Tour). The conference was the first ever in Odessa and it was awesome with about 300 students from 40-60 churches. We also had a great dinner in Kiev (at TGI Fridays with a BUNCH of Americans. Along with our group of youth ministers, there was also a team of videographers from StudentLife and several Birmingham, Alabama families pursuing orphan adoptions.

This is my friend Luba- I met her in 2004 and ran into her at the Radooga Conference on this recent trip.

Here’s some lessons learned on the trip:

1. Jetlag is when your mind and your body disagree about what time it is.

2. You can have a decent quiet time on a long airflight.

3. Inflight movies are the bomb.

4. My backpack and daypack are keepers.

5. That Canon Powershot camera really works!

6. My expensive walking/hiking shoes suck.

7. On an Eestward approach to the ATL airport, you can see the Mall of GA (and the REI Store) from 3500 feet!

American Radooga staffer Calyn with Angelina and Ivana- we met them at the conference and then ran into them that night at the train station.

All I need is a Fedora!
