The reason I chose to do the World Race was not just one single event that led me to this decision. Looking back at it now, it started with a coworker at work. Just before he started, he had been in missions for about 2 years. While working together, we talked about the work he did as well as his experiences. This sparked my interest of traveling somewhere to do mission work, but at this time i didn’t know where to look. I prayed at this time for God to lead me to something that I could join.

The next step in series of events happened when my family and I visited my aunt and uncle, who were just recently back from a couple years of serving in Thailand. We spent the weekend hanging out in there town and talking about their experiences in serving. While we were chatting my aunt asked what my plans were for down the road. I shared that I would like to find something that I could serve people somehow and travel places as well. This is when I first heard the words “The World Race.” On the 3 hour drive home I spent the whole time reading blogs, searching the website, and thinking about this new idea.

After this weekend with my aunt was a time of prayer, insights from friends and family, and a youth trip to Kenya. This is the time that I looked into all the requirements and figured out if this is where I could serve the Lord. God was speaking to me in the messages from the speakers and pastors at church.

In 2017 our youth group theme verses came from the Great Commission passage in Matthew 28 19&20. These verses also became my theme verses and is one of the reason I chose to do the World Race

Shortly before Thanksgiving, I finally filled out all the initial forms. I was then accepted and ready to begin the next steps.
