I am blown away by God yet again.
Firstly, my Host Family. I cannot begin to express my love for our host family and we’ve have only known them a short while. They welcomed us into their home like we were family and always strive to serve us.
Alberto, the father and our main ministry contact, is a wonderful man of God. He is a great leader and a humble friend. He is one crazy El Salvadorian dad with a heart for the Lord.
Mariela, the mother, consistently fills my heart with joy. She has an incredible sense of humor, always pushes us to learn more Spanish and love us like we are her own children. I am very excited to get to know her more.
Christian, the oldest child, is a really kind hearted guy. He knows a handful of english and helps us communicate.
Tonia, the only daughter, was a little shy at first but now is beginning to open up to us. She is really funny and enjoys having us. She is just about to graduate high school.
David is a great guy. He is the third child and really enjoys spending time with us. Ive noticed he has a soft heart and really cares for people.
Dani, the youngest, is probably the child I am closest with so far. He is a crazy 12 year old that wants to be a pastor. He loves hanging out with us. He and I often walk down the street to get a coke or a snack together.
The Santos family is a huge blessing to the team. I really enjoy living with them and already feel like a member of the family.
Secondly, our ministry.
We are partnered with Tabernacle Baptist Church. It is located in a very sketchy area in San Salvador. The church actually lies on the street that divides the two controlling gangs in El Salvador, but they are a fantastic church family with ministry contacts all over the city. They just purchased a new piece of land that we will be working on every weekend. They plan to build a new church campus with a park for a community in need.
The church also has multiple ministries throughout the week that we will be helping with.
Last week it was visiting hospitals, and street evangelism. This week we are doing drama skits and activities with kindergarteners in local schools. We also will be feeding the homeless on Saturdays nights and visiting hospitals with kids who are cancer victims.
We have a lot of work cut out for us but we couldn’t be more excited. We are here to be vessels for God. So whether we are cleaning toilets in a church, picking up sticks in a field, or praying over a child who has less than a year to live, we are doing it for the Lord.
AND pupusas are apparently the national food of El Salvador and we have eaten them almost everyday. If you’re curious, a pupusa is basically a corn tortilla stuffed with chicken and cheese or maybe beans. Sold by almost everyone with a stove for about 20 cents each.
A greasy pile of carbs.
Yum.
Okay they are actually pretty good.
Regardless, we are doing great down here! Cant believe I get to spend two and a half more months here!
Keep praying for our team. Pray our hearts will stay receptive to Him and willing to follow anywhere He leads.
GOD IS GOOD
