Often times, I get a good amount of praise for doing the World Race. People tell me that it is so awesome I’ve chosen to do it, that it is something they could never do themselves. Really, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to other people to pack up and live out in the great unknown for 9 months straight, but to me it’s not so crazy.

Over the past year or so, I’ve come to a paradigm shift. This change in thinking is part of what caused me to apply for this program. Here it is: I am not the star of the show.

None of us are, actually. And this is a hard realization for some of us to come to. Our culture is so self serving, and I am a part of the “Me” generation. Our lives essentially revolve around, well, us.

But in the story of the world as a whole, Jesus is the star. He is the one with lights around His name on the billboard.

In every story ever told, there can only be one central character. What’s more is that the rest of the characters involved to any degree are put there for the sole purpose of adding to the life of that protagonist. That’s why they call these characters “supporting roles,” and these are the roles we’ve all been casted as. This newfound standpoint is so humbling in a beautiful way. My entire life should revolve around the idea that Jesus is the center of it all.

My purpose here on earth is to live a life for Him, to glorify Him in my thoughts, actions, and words, and to make Him known. This is the task we’ve all been entrusted with. That is my mission. I’ve been reminded that I was made for much more than an ordinary life full of selfishness.

John 10:10 reminds me that “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” Making Jesus the center of our lives promises us life abundant.

True joy comes from the Father, although the world often offers us temporary satisfaction or happiness. Only Christ can offer us eternal joy!

With this in mind, a completely self serving life doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. I want to walk in His ways because He is a good, good Father who will never fail me. This trip is for Him, not me. It is all Him, and all I had to do was to give Him my “yes.” I’m trusting that what he has is far better than what I could have imagined for myself. Living outside of His ways is out of the question.

I was created BY Him, FOR Him.

What is God asking you to say “yes” to today, this week, this year, this lifetime?

Who are you living your life for?
