Hey everyone! First I am going to start off with a little about me. I am a senior in high school, a tennis player, a sister, and a fitness, beach, traveler and dog lover. I live in the small town of Dillsburg, even though I wish I lived near the beach, my small little town is something that I will miss next year. Although I will not necessarily miss the town itself, (as I said before…not my favorite location) I will miss the people and the beautiful changing seasons. Enough about me, now lets get to the bigger reason as to why I am embarking on this adventure.
I first heard about The World Race Gap Year from a friend of mine who I went to youth group with. She went on the race herself and her stories and pictures facinated me. I have always loved traveling and adventure ever since I was little. I was so fortunate growing up being able to travel all around (in and out of the U.S.) with my family. The trips that we have gone on hold some of my favorite memories. When I finally made the decision to apply for the World Race, it was one of the most exhilerating moments of my life! I cannot put into words how excited I am to travel the world and spread God’s love and wisdom to those who don’t already know it. I will be living in Balkans, Europe for 3 months, the Philippines for 3 months, and in South Africa for 3 months. The traveling aspect is not only the exciting part for me. I am also excited to meet so many new people and make great memories which will last forever.
Although I will admit it is so strange to think about leaving my family and friends for 9 months. Most people read about the race and think “9 months….14,000 dollars…!”. Believe me, I feel the exact same way. How am I going to raise the money? God is my only answer to that question because I definitely do not make that much babysitting!! But in all seriousness, if there is a will than there is a way. Nine months sounds like a lifetime without being with my family and friends but I know it will more than worth it in the end. Life is so much more than our comfortableness.
So I will leave you with this for now, I am going to need all of the support that I can get! Whether its prayers or financially supporting me, both are equally as important and needed. I can’t wait for my adventure and I hope you are excited for me as well 🙂
