Before meeting up with the full squad in Jinja, Uganda, my team and the team I was with had the privilege of traveling to Restoration Gateway. Restoration Gateway is an orphanage located on 500 acres of land overlooking the Nile River and helps in restoring peace and healing wounds among the vulnerable children and war-torn people of northern Uganda, serving as a “gateway” between Northern and Southern Uganda.

We spent three days on the land, near the orphanage. A lot of the land is still undeveloped and is slowly becoming a place where medical and dental care can be offered to the community.

Outside of playing soccer and other games with the children, most of our three days were spent out in the African bush, clearing away trees, bushes, and weeds to make a road. I personally enjoyed this. It was good to be reunited with an ax and some trees to chop down (believe it or not I am having withdraws of not being able to chop and split wood for the fireplaces back home).

Along with the good hard work and the amazing children, this was an amazing three days to take in the amazing views of Africa and spend some time totally alone with God. From sunrises over the Nile, sunsets on top of a water-tower, and watching lightning storms at night from my hammock, this was an amazing three days in Uganda.

After Restoration Gateway we meet up for a few days with the rest of the squad and spent some time coming together and rafting the Nile! My team and I are now currently heading to Swaziland for month 10. Thank you for all the constant prayers and support. It means more then you will ever know!
