What is comfort? Where can you find comfort? What does comfort look like?
Comfort is something I’ve been thinking about for a long time now. I’ve been asking myself what it would mean for me to live in a place of comfort. How would I live obediently if I’m constantly staying in my own comforts? How will I react when at the moment I feel comfortable I have to live somewhere else, be with different people, always in a mindset of “the unknown.”
Being home for a month, before we launch for Ecuador in January, has been so bizarre. The place where I found comfort before I left for training camp feels so foreign now. I feel as though I’m not living in reality. How can I, when over the course of 3 months, I’ve grown in ways I could have never imagined. The Lord revealed so much to me, healed me, & changed my mindset on “what is the meaning of life.” How can I find comfort when over these past 3 months, constant comfort was never near. We would constantly have to pack up our belongings and move inside… then back outside again. We had to learn how to open up and be vulnerable, how to give constructive feedback and have those hard conversations you’ve been trying to avoid.
Finding comfort in others will never last. Placing comfort in worldly materials won’t last either. So the question I’ve been asking myself is “how can I find true comfort in the Lord?” How can I remain firm in my faith and trust the Lord if things keep changing?
We need to define the fine line between the definition of comfort in this world and comfort in the Lord.
When I asked God this question, His answer was astounding. He simply put it “You will never ‘feel’ comfortable when you follow Me, because following Me, means to drop every materialistic thing/worldly thing you hold onto and step out into a place of the unknown, only holding onto faith and trusting Me.”
So what is the answer to this question?
BEING COMFORTABLE IN THE LORD WILL ALWAYS BE UNCOMFORTABLE. PERIOD.
What the Lord calls you to in your lifetime is never of this world. We are different and we stand out. The world notices the way we carry ourselves and we feel out of place, just like how I felt out of place living in my own home.
God is always calling you deeper into the unknown, asking you to trust Him and have faith. He will bring protection and peace within you and He is always with you. That’s where we find comfort in the Lord.
When we lean into him with a heart full of hope and child like faith, we will find comfort in the Lord. Take his hand and hold on tight, because taking a step in faith is scary, but you have the Big man upstarts walking this life with you.
So with that being said, I encourage you to ask your self the challenging question. Where do you find comfort? Is it in the things of this world, or do you find comfort in the Lord?
