“I need a nap”

Something I say on the regular at home but even more so on the race and literally every five minutes with this new ministry.

My team and I found out a couple days before we got to Malaysia that we would actually be separated from the rest of our squad and living in the capital, a smaller version of New York, yet still crazy busy city. This ministry looks a lot different than the ones we’ve had before because we each have our own jobs with different supervisors, doing different things and in completely different buildings than one another.

We are working with an organization that provides education to the poor, which is a lot of refugees. I have the privilege of working as a teacher in a toddler class. I’m just gonna use that word loosely because these 1-3 year olds are basically already adults. Everyday from 8-4:30 I’m running after little minions who are so clever they could probably convince me that up was down.

The children come into the classroom and take off their own shoes, put them in their specific shoe box, take their bags to their cubbies, wash their hands, eat breakfast, sit down for circle time and then sing the songs they have memorized for the end of year performance (that I’m the MC of, just saying). They even know how to prepare their own milk.

If they’re so smart and grown up my job should be easy right? No. Since they are so clever and independent they notice that I’m young and white and strange so sometimes they just don’t listen to me. And also I’m still learning the whole “independent toddler” thing and they’re so cute they could get away with anything. Which is why I’m in constant need of a nap.

The race has been pushing me to grow in ways I didn’t even know were possible and that in itself is exhausting. So that’s what I will be doing for the rest of this month. Keep my team and I in your prayers as we continue this crazy journey. And for me, I am now $4,485 away from being fully funded and I have until January to get there so I am still in need of financial support as well as your prayers. Thank you!
