I am a leader for the 8th grade girls that are a part of my church family. We had middle school youth group last night and I was pleasantly surprised to see that my sweet friend, Lulu, was asked to speak about the story of David and Goliath. Let me tell you, God spoke boldly through her yesterday! She declared that with the skills and talents God has so intricately placed in us and with our powerful Father himself, we have everything we could possibly need and more. She put encouragement in the middle schoolers as she read the verse 1 Timothy 4:12 that says, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity”. In our small groups, there was an incredible conversation as we encouraged each other in sharing our faith to people older than us, and learning to not be restricted because of our age. Mostly why I am writing this blog post is because I wanted to share a specific thing that changed my perspective in a mighty way as I sat in the student room listening to my friend speak the goodness of God.
God is an all-knowing God. He knows what is going to happen in the next few moments, in our next month, and even 30 years from now. He has planned a beautiful purpose and life for all of us. This is already a big, amazing thing for us to fully comprehend. But this is what’s even crazier … Satan, the enemy, doesn’t own the ability to know our future. Woahhh! Guys, he has no idea any next movements we are going to make. He doesn’t know the communities we are going to create, the impactful conversations we are going to have with our best friends over FaceTime late at night, the amount of money we are going to provide to those who need it, or what we are going to order at Chipotle after Chemistry class on a Wednesday afternoon. If he knew what was going to happen next in the story of David and Goliath, he could’ve told Goliath to put on a helmet that covered his forehead or that he should just stay in bed so that David, a young middle school aged kid, couldn’t sling a stone right at him and defeat him. I’m so in awe of this. It is not an equal fight when our faith is found in our heavenly Father. God is abundantly greater in power over our lives and what we will be doing next. Like wow, sweet people! If we just believe that God is for us and we have confidence in that, as David did when he approached the giant, the enemy loses EVERY DROP of control from our lives. The rivalry between the greatness of God and the sin that Satan holds is irrelevant in us now.
As I was driving to school this morning, I was welcomed to my car by an incredible song that came on the radio. It is called See a Victory by Elevation Worship. God is actually so cool! This song said EXACTLY what I am talking about, and it just brought so much more truth to God’s awesomeness!
Here are some super POWERFUL lyrics that I just have to share with you all.
“The weapon may be formed, but it won’t prosper. When the darkness falls, it won’t prevail. ‘Cause the God I serve knows only how to triumph. My God will never fail. I’m gonna see a victory. For the battle belongs to You, Lord! You take what the enemy meant for evil, and You turn it for good.”
That is SO good! SO good!
Hearing that message last night and hearing that song first thing in the morning proves that God is such a good God! Sometimes I can’t even fathom how God shows up in ways like this, and that He doesn’t give up on us as He pursues us. He shows up because he simply just wants to be with us. Isn’t that the COOLEST thing?! For the past couple of months I have been in a weird spot in my relationship with God. I have constantly been grateful for all He does, but I haven’t been consistent in building a relationship with Him. I have felt a little lost, a little stressed, and I feel like school and planning for the future have been dwelling negatively in my life and taking over. Knowing that my battles belong to a MIGHTY Savior, and that with Him the enemy has NO power over my life, is the most JOYFUL thing!!
With God our battle is already won. We follow a God that is perfection, and beauty, and goodness, and love. He cannot be defeated. He is alive and present and moving in us. That is so insanely awesome!
