So I’m launching on the World Race today. I thought I’d write up a little post to give a few more details about where I’m going and what I’ll be doing in the next 11 months.
Here’s a little World Race dictionary to make things a little less confusing!
World Race: an 11 month mission trip. We travel to a different country each month and will partner with local churches and ministries. We will serve alongside them in their communities to be the hands and feet of Christ and share the Gospel.
Route: the itinerary of countries we will be visiting. I’m headed to Bulgaria, Romania, Albania, Kosovo, Mozambique, South Africa, Swaziland, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, & Bolivia!
Racer: a participant of the World Race
Squad: a group of 40-60 Racers that travel together on the World Race. We’ll go to all the same countries and be split into Teams once we reach our country for the month. I’m on W Squad!
Team: a group of 6-8 Racers who do life together. These are the people I will live with, do ministry alongside, and be my community. Teams build each other up and hold each other accountable. They are the front runners in calling me to change, stretch, and grow into who God says I am. For the first four months, I am on Team Submerge 427. You can find the lovely ladies on my team on the left side of the page! Click on their profile to learn more about them and to have another perspective on what life & ministry look like.
Squad Leader: During the first several months of the Race, two Alumni Racers will be leading my squad. They will oversee the spiritual health and progress of the squad and help us learn how to do life on the field. After the first few months, a few Racers from my squad will be chosen to assume the role for the rest of the Race.
Team Leader: a fellow Squad mate chosen by Squad leaders, coaches, and mentors to lead one of the teams that make up the squad. Everyone has a voice, but team leaders assume great responsibility in agreeing to lead. Leadership occasionally changes throughout the Race.
Squad Coaches: They are usually a married couple who oversee the spiritual growth of the squad. They often live in the States, but will be checking in on us and come to all of our debriefs. They’ve done life longer than we have and offer wisdom and mentorship to Racers.
Ministry: a team’s assignment for the month. It varies from country to country, and could even vary daily. Examples of ministry could include: door-to-door ministry, working in an orphanage, teaching English, physical labor, and so on.
Debrief: a time at the end of a ministry month when the squad reunites. Racers get a chance to reunite with squad mates before beginning the next ministry month.
We’re getting on a plane tonight that will take us to Istanbul, Turkey and then we’ll catch a final plane to Bulgaria. My team will be spending the month in Dobromirka, Bulgaria and we’re partnering with a ministry called Mission Possible. More details to come!
I might be a little out of touch this first month as I begin to figure out life on the field. The best way to reach me will be through Facebook or email. My email address is [email protected].
Please be praying for my squad as we travel to our ministry locations and begin this first month.
I’ll be talking to you soon from Bulgaria!
