They say that when a woman is going to have a baby she begins nesting. Well I don’t think this is limited to being pregnant. I believe this process comes when you feel the internal need to feel at home or as much as home as you can in a new place.
I have been in Gainesville for about a week now and the day after I moved in I had every box opened and unpacked as well as everything on the walls. All of the pictures may not be level, but it looks pretty good to me. I had this desire, this need to get everything ready and in order before I started work last Monday. Once I started sitting at my desk the second day of my training, I looked at the blank walls and all of the possibilities and by Wednesday I had family pictures on display, a painting I bought from Haiti and of course my 12th man towel I got my freshman year at A&M.
I get the usual remarks when I say I’m from Texas, but the question I get asked the most is, “so why are you in Gainesville”. This question I love answering! I love bragging on how good God has been to me in the past few weeks. I felt so lost again after returning home and then felt so torn when asked to leave again. There was so much peace that came with saying yes and watching the Lord take care of everything. I have two amazing roommates, a great work environment, and I continue to grow more each day (even in a week). I love being challenged again and learning something new every day. I have to think and be organized and I have laughed every day. How much better could it be? Well starting every week with worship is a start and knowing that I could ask for prayer at any moment and there would be people right there to lift me up.
There were times that I didn’t know what the Lord was doing, but when we can put our trust in Him in a surreal kind of way He really does make what seems hard to grasp sitting in the palm of our hands. I know that He will continue to provide as this journey progresses one day at a time and I know that each day is going to bring a new challenge but also a new joy as I minister to others.
I’m so thankful.
