10 Steps to Surviving Travel Days on the World Race
Step 1:
Make sure you have the following items in your daypack:
- Travel pillow
- Some kind of jacket (airports are way colder than any country you will go to)
- Sleep mask
- IPod (fully charged) with headphones
- Chargers
- Toothbrush and toothpaste (traveling for 4 days without brushing your teeth is gross!)
- A roll of toilet paper (yes not every bathroom you will enter will have some)
- Money in the local currency (in case you have to pay to use the bathroom)
- LOTS OF WATER (you WILL get dehydrated!)
- Blanket (or just take one from the plane)
- A change of clothes (you will appreciate this on the second of third day of traveling just to feel somewhat clean)
Step 2:
Eat lightly just in case the bathrooms aren’t very accessible
Step 3:
Walk around on the plane or you will walk off a 14 hour flight with swollen ankles and feet…
Step 4:
Learn to sleep sitting up…this may be your only option
Step 5:
Bring a deck of cards…best way to change an environment
Step 6:
Don’t take anything too personally…everyone is cranky on no sleep
Step 7:
Go with the flow…the logistics people have it under control…well God does anyway
Step 8:
Wear comfortable shoes in case you have to run through the airport to catch a flight…but they will hold the plane for you since you will take up half of the flight…
Step 9:
Have your passport in a place where it’s easy to get to.
Step 10:
Don’t waste an opportunity to love on the people around you…this is your family after all!
