Dear Friends and Family,
As I prepare to graduate from high school in 5 months, one of the questions many people most frequently ask me is, “So, where are you planning to go to college?” For a long time, going to college straight after high school seemed like the only option that I had, and at the time I was OK with that. However, in recent years God has been showing me that even though His plan may be for me to go to college sometime in the future, that is not His plan right now. God has been working in my heart and has given me a passion for spreading His love to poor people living in developing countries, and I want to be open to His calling in pursuing that passion.
With that being said, I am so excited to announce that starting in August of 2016, I will be going on the World Race Gap Year. The World Race Gap Year, which is a program of Adventures in Missions, is a 9 month missions trip in which I will be spending 3 months each in Guatemala, Lesotho (South Africa), and Cambodia. I will be traveling and serving with a group of around 50 other college age youth, and I am so excited to learn and grow alongside all of them as we travel on this journey together. We will be partnering with various local churches and ministries to spread the Gospel and the love of Jesus to the people in those communities.
God really gave me a heart for missions when I had the opportunity to go on several mission trips to the Philippines. The deep joy and sense of community that the Filipinos had even in the midst of their deep poverty was extremely eye-opening and made me re-evaluate my perspective on life. I’ve never felt more alive than when I was serving and loving others in the Philippines, so I knew that the developing world was where God wanted me to be. I also was able to meet a World Race Gap Year squad while I was on that trip. Going on the World Race Gap Year has been a dream of mine and something that God has been calling me to do for the past 2 years, and so far He has been so faithful in opening the doors to make this dream a reality.
Your prayers and encouragement will be very much appreciated leading up to and during my trip. Please pray for me, that God will be able to use me as His hands and feet to spread His love around the world, and that I will grow more and more in my relationship with Him. Please also pray for my team, that we will be a community of Christ followers who encourage, love, and care for each other and everyone else we come in contact with. I also ask that you pray for the people in the countries that we are going to, that God will be working in their hearts to draw them to Him, and that they may know His love through our ministry. I will be posting updates and prayer requests on this blog, cindyrohrer.theworldrace.org , so feel free to subscribe to see what God is teaching me on this journey. Also on my blog you can see that I am in the process of fundraising in order to raise enough money to be able to participate on the Race. I need to raise $13,805, which includes all airfare, transportation, food, and lodging for the duration of the trip. I trust that God will provide everything that I need. I have been saving up for the past couple of years, but I can in no way raise all of this money alone. With that being said, I hope that you will prayerfully consider financially supporting me on this journey.
