When I think back on my life before the Race, all I see now were distractions. Despite of my best attempts, I would spend hours at the rock climbing gym and not be communication with God once. I would get bogged down at work running from meeting to meeting or deep in thought wireframing on Axure and forget about how good He is. I would be at church listening to the message and so busy writing notes for later that I didn’t actually listen to what He was trying to convey through those words at that moment.
Stepping out of the airport in Lilongwe, Malawi, I immediately felt a sense of peace that resonated with the stillness within my soul. Our ride from the airport to our ministry site in the corn fields of Nkhotakota were filled with feelings of giddiness, and I was in constant awe of the country’s beauty and serenity.
The men that we worked with at Timothy Harvest Ministries were some of the most joyful and Spirit-filled people I’ve ever met in my life despite of their hardships. I initially thought that everybody in the country was the same way but as we ventured into the villages, I knew that they had something different. They had the Holy Spirit, and they were walking in it every single day. As brothers-in-Christ, they sought to know us and encouraged our team with love and discernment. Pastor Anthony, Frackson, Gracious, Tapiwa, Thomas—they all found ways to praise the Lord in every moment, and it was inspiring.
In 1 Corinthians 2:12-13, Paul wrote, “Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.”
When we come to the end of ourselves and begin to live in the Spirit, life looks a little different. Thinking back to life in America, I knew my distractions were only there because I wasn’t in tune with the Spirit. To be in tune with the Spirit is to constantly be seeing, listening, speaking, and doing through Him. Those distractions I mentioned weren’t about the actual thing I was doing. It was more about me not seeking guidance through the Spirit in everything I was doing. God taught me a lot about that in Malawi as we played with children and did door-to-door ministry. And the more that I seek Him in everything, the more I realized the extent of how much I wasn’t seeking Him earlier.
As mentioned in my previous post, through the fruit of the Spirit of peace, I was able to boldly pray, discern, and share wisdom that He had given me. At the end of the month, I was challenged to take that further and pray for people outside of ministry. It’s been good as He’s been showing me what it looks like to be alert and on the lookout for every opportunity He has for me to bring His kingdom.

P.S God has been so good! I have raised close to $500 since my last email update and need a little over $3400 for my final fundraising deadline in 7 days. Please continue to share, pray, and donate if that’s what He’s calling you to do. Thank you all for supporting me in this!
