Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.
I’ve had my fair share of life lessons in over two decades. How did I narrow it down to 10? Not sure, but as a reader potentially thirsting to know more, I’m hoping you’ll milk it in and that it’ll eliminate your need to skim.
1. Humility is valuable. In every aspect of life. Pride is one of those sneaky things that when you think you’ve dealt with it in one area, it’s still present in a different form. It takes a level of maturity and awareness to be able to recognize that and be intentional in practicing humility.
2. I am uniquely ME for a reason. I am enough. I am worthy. I am special. I am truly one-of-a-kind. In the best way. When I find myself starting to go down the road of comparing and thinking of how others are more beautiful, flawless, smarter, driven, and so forth, I am learning to immediately stop and bring myself back to those simple truths.
3. I am loved by my creator. At this moment. Right now. I am loved right now. And now. Annnd now. And so are you. Totally and completely loved. Right at this moment. Say it. Let it sink in.
4. Sharing is caring. If it’s good, and God’s not asking me to hold back, why not share it? Hugs, prayers, encouragement, words I think I’m hearing from Him, cookies…
5. Adventure can be found every single day. It’s through connections with people. It’s in letting your plans get interrupted as you go about your day. My favorite countries on the Race were not marked by the place but by my encounters with people in and outside of our assigned ministry.
6. I am worth pursuing. Why waste my life pining after somebody who doesn’t feel the same way? I deserve to be seen, loved, cherished, and pursued the way God sees me. So I will wait and trust it will fall into place as I pursue Him in all that I do.
7. True freedom is worth the risk. Never have I ever experienced so much joy and freedom after taking the risk to step out of the norm. Not freedom in the sense of I can do whatever I want and joy as I’m so ecstatically happy all the time. It runs immeasurably deeper than that. Don’t let the fear of abandoning the security that the world brings keep you from experiencing the security of knowing who you are in Christ. It’s worth it.
8. My confidence is gained through the act of surrendering. I can’t fully restore the things that are broken. But He can. And I can pave the way for God to work. For Him to love. For Him to heal. For Him to speak truth. I’m surrendering and relying less on what words I can say and actions I can take through my own strength and competency and trusting that He will use me.
9. It’s all about perspective. Life is never going to be perfect. No matter how much you learn. Just gotta take it in, be thankful, and give praises for what you have.
10. There is always more. More to learn about myself. About others. About the world around me. About God. More to explore. More faith to gain. More adventures to take. Schenanigans to get myself into. Genius puns to be thought of.
