Ok so now what are these good works? Where do I begin?
You begin with your own family.
In 1 Timothy 5:8 But those who won’t care for their relatives, especially those in their own household have denied the true faith. Such people are worse than unbelievers.
The word calls us to take care of our families first. I truly believe that this is a lot more than just our material needs. Christ calls us to ‘take care’ of our families spiritually. I don’t mean to say you have the power to save a family member.
Don’t put that weight on yourself.
Only the Holy Spirit of God can call a person to Himself. Only He can convict a soul. You as a human being do not have that power.
So what can you do then?
You can love your family well. You can serve them.
You can live out the words you read in scripture. You can speak the truth to them in love.
You can live out the power of the gospel in your life.
You can make a difference in your family! But you have to choose to do so.
If you aren’t willing to share the gospel with your family, who will?
If you aren’t willing to love them, serve them, take care of them…who will?
We should love each other enough not to just wait and pray for someone else to share Christ with your family.
You are in your family for a reason.
Think about that for a minute. The Lord of all creation placed you in your family for a reason. He first called you to Himself for a purpose. Then He trust you that you will tell your family about Him.
Has Christ changed your life? Has He changed your heart? Has He forgiven you and taken away all your sin?
Has Jesus set you free?
Then share it!
He has trust in you that you will follow His voice and do His will. That includes sharing His love with your family. When Christ said to love your neighbor as yourself, He didn’t just mean your neighbors! He trusted that you would be so in love with Him, so changed by Him that you couldn’t help but to love your family first and to tell them the good news!
Ok so then, that being said, your good works should start with your family. Bring that beautiful faith of yours to life! Love your family well enough to tell them about the amazing love of Jesus!
