I
must make a disclaimer before writing this post. I believe that
worship is a lifestyle, not just an event, but because that is the
most common term used for the singing that takes place when believers
gather together, that is the best terminology I know right now to
title this part of my training camp experience.
We
had the privilege of being led in worship by a leader named Jonathan
David Helser (his music is on iTunes if you’re interested in checking
it out!). He will also be leading worship while we are in Ireland in
a few months. We had some quality worship times with him in the few
days he was here with us, and God spoke to me through a few of his
songs. One line in particular from one of the songs that stood out to
me says, “There’s no end to the affection You have for me.â€
Though I have known of God’s love for years, it was as if the depth
and greatness of God’s love suddenly came alive for me while singing
this. I realized that in being loved by God, I am loved by an eternal
love, which means it never ends. The extent of God’s love is
infinite, because He is infinite…and He is love. Another line
finished off this beautiful thought: “I am loved. I am chosen. I’m
the Beloved. Thank you, Jesus!
Another
realization I made during our worship times was actually a
reinforcement of a conclusion I reached a while ago. I think that my
most favorite worship pieces are those that involve drums, because it
is a physical, tangible representation of God’s power and the power
of His people, led by Him, charging the gates of hell. So I say, down
with the walls of Jericho!
Later
on in the week, us Racers were given responsibility for worship. I
think this is awesome, not only for the privilege to be able to do
so, but because I think it is a kind of analogy of how things will be
this coming year — we are given guidance in ministry then set free
to take our positions in fulfilling our roles. It sure is beautiful
when the body of Christ comes together to worship the King!
Sing
to the Lord, all the earth; proclaim the good news of His salvation
from day to day. — I Chronicles 16:23
