Isaiah 52:7 – A piece of scripture that many of us know and can quote. Several people have Isaiah 52:7 written on their hearts (or foot as a tattoo) because they can identify with the image the verse creates. It resonates with them. It seems as if any kind of “good deed” or “act of love” that has been documented in some way, you can find Isiah 52:7 stamped right beside it. And I get it. But I’ve never pictured myself or even a great “Missionary” in Isaiah 52:7, I see Jesus.
About a week ago, I had the great opportunity to visit Wyoming and Montana. I know, some of you are probably saying you wouldn’t call Wyoming and Montana “a great opportunity” but to me, it’s a gift to see both states. While in both states, we took every chance there was to hike the nearest trail. Mountains may look the same to some people, but I think each one has something different to offer. While in Montana hiking a certain mountain, I thought of Isaiah 52:7. I was standing still on a part of the steep climb my sister and I was venturing on, taking a break to enjoy the morning scenery behind us. I started to remind myself of the feet I only see that “brings good news” in the Isaiah verse.
Jesus. The messenger who brought us good news. I stood with my feet on that mountain reminding myself I am nothing without the holy feet of the sovereign king that walked this earth to bring me good news. Going to 11 countries in 11 months does not make me anything extraordinary. My name or “mission work” that I may do is nothing worthy of stamping Isaiah 52:7 beside. But the one who made grace reality for you and I is completely worthy. The one who not only stood on a mountain to tell the good news but came personally to the outsider to say they’re now forever included is worthy.
Someone told me recently that “his goal is to not impersonate Jesus, but embody Him”. I don’t want to be an impersonator who looks great while doing the work of the Lord. I want to embody the messenger who was once on the mountain telling the good news. I’m thankful for that reminder of Isaiah 52:7 I had on that Montana mountain. Because without the beautiful feet of the Messenger, you and I wouldn’t have the opportunity to know the ultimate good news and embody its message. How beautiful are YOU because of the beautiful feet of the Messenger.
