“This city breaths the plague of loving things more than their creators.” -(Mumford and Sons, Hold onto what you believe).
“Once there was an artist who made his fortune by wood carving. However, it was not necessarily his fortune that brought joy to his heart, but merely when people thanked him for his product, stroke up a conversation with him, and gave him pleasurable credit for his handy work. Unfortunately that was rarely the case. It usually went like this: There would be lines of people waiting to get his items, they would neither look at him nor thank him etc.. They would simply keep their eyes on the item they wanted to purchase. Although his awesome work brought others joys, it left the wood carver feeling used and over looked. This dilemma made him want to stop providing his product for his customers all together.”
This is a made-up story that I would like to share with all of you because it brings into perspective how we humans adore such things more than God, The One who created EVERYTHING. We tend to go throughout our day giving no credit to God and instead trying to bring glory/light to ourselves. Now when I put it that way it seems pretty sick and twisted up but it is none the less true.
In Romans 1 it talks about God’s Wrath Against Sinful Humanity. In verse 25 it states, “They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator- who is forever praised.”
In the past I have struggled with loving people, however, God delivered me from that and has called me to a life to simply love. Ironic right? Sometimes I obsess over trying to love people too much and realize that I am not going through God first. First get right with God, then with people. Because trying to do things without God is absolutely draining. I forget time to time that all thanks should go to God and that humans are just humans.
As I embark on this new journey it is so important to realize that nothing I do is because of me but because of God. When I hear about missionaries leading others to Christ, it is vital to understand that it is ALL GOD and NOT PEOPLE. Taking God’s glory from Him probably makes Him sad, overlooked, etc..
Love The Creator more than the things He has created.
Much Love,
A mere human.
