These kids are beautiful – and I shudder at the thought that at one point in their short lives: someone didn’t want them – someone couldn’t afford them – someone didn’t love them – someone mistreated them – someone abandoned them – someone gave them away…

Mission of Hope is a unique ministry in that it has many focuses and facets connected to a common core leader – Pastor Lexidon and his wife Renee. It is encouraging to know the favor they carry among the people and leadership in Haiti and to see how God has blessed them abundantly for their faithfulness to serve in this Kingdom work.

One aspect of their ministry includes caring for 31 orphans. At a time (not to long ago, yet unknown to us) these kiddos were at an orphanage in {Lao Gan} – staying in an unclean, jampacked concrete building with limited yard space, a 16 foot wall, 200 other kids, rarely receiving a bath or hygiene care, not to mention limited meals (if at all). These kids were on the border of starvation – with absolutely nothing keeping them alive but God’s grace.

When Pastor Lex visited the orphanage these kids were staying at one time, he recognized the condition and wanted to do something to assist the health of these kids. Unfortunately, the owners of this orphanage were corrupt and essentially using their abundance of untaken-care-of children to make money. When children were brought to this place they were promised food, clothing, shelter, and great adventures, as well as an education. The grim and heart awakening reality of this promise – is that it was an absolute dirty lie.

Their true colors began to shine through – clear as day – when Pastor Lex began to donate food for the kids, and whatever else may assist their physical needs – the owner asked for money. When money was not given, and tangible supplies continued to come – the owner asked Pastor Lex to stop giving if he would not give money. The case went to court – and on the day Pastor Lex came to retrieve the children he would be taking to Mission of Hope, the owner released the kids and told them to escape by scaling the 16-foot wall, so the “big-bad pastor” wouldn’t get them. It is heart breaking to imagine the trauma and terror these little ones have been through…and they haven’t even lived a decade.

Praise the Lord for His redemption and restoration despite seemingly impossible circumstances. These kids no longer live malnourished lives, and their laughter is pure and sweet enough to melt anyone’s heart. Just as God has been faithful to redeem these kiddos from their place of eventual death by starvation and lack of love – He brought them to a place of abundant light, life, joy, provision, and care – a place where the LOVE OF GOD is clearly displayed and practiced day in and day out. Mission of HOPE truly offered these children HOPE – for a future, for a life, for love and relationship with Christ – for redemption.
