Part 2 of “running and family” is attributed to Colby + Daniel.
[super-strong P-squaders who ran the 2010 Bucharest City Marathon.]
It was a cold, foggy morning in Bucharest as our brothers triumphed over their 4 x 10k laps.
Watching them run as brothers – united – and spurring one another on – brought us all to tears.
A sense of deep appreciation and pride welled up in our P-squad crew. We’d run a baby race compared to this feat, but we felt like part of it. These mighty men of God carried light and joy with them throughout the course – and no doubt were Christ to many of the runners they encountered – be it through a smile, a short conversation or cheers!
One of my favorite moments during the race was seeing Jeremy and Lucas join them on the course. What started out as an attempt to give them some energy treats + water, turned into taking a majority of the final lap with them. This is brotherhood at it’s core. Love, respect, and running together. And yes, Jeremy ran 4.5-5 miles in blue jeans, a rain coat + multiple misc. layers, and a video camera…he never thought twice or questioned this. Instead, he chose in to supporting brothers.
5:24:20 = FINISHED!
Colby successfully completed his first ever marathon. Iron-man runner Daniel kept with him every step.
We were all so proud of our brothers – one couldn’t help but want to cry, laugh, jump, shout, etc.
We were quite a site…and encouragement to other racers finishing at the end of the race.
Our P-squad family rejoiced…and the Lord reminded me that this is what life is all about…
running and family.
As I watched a dad run with flowers to meet his two sons at the finish line…
and a daughter race for her daddy’s hand to help him run his final steps…
a wife holding her husband’s sweatshirt and a bottle of water…clad from ear to ear with a smile…
a best friend waving a colorful sign – and reminding their sister they were almost finished + could do it…I understood.
Together we run – spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and even physically.
Together we set out on the race of life – and journey into and through what God sets before us.
Running together is always much better than running alone.
There’s something beautiful about falling in love with your
family…it’s something you don’t expect – but then you realize it’s
the Lord’s love for each individual member overflowing in your heart –
and shaping your affection for them. The body of Christ is an incredible network. It is always worth celebrating FAMILY + CHOOSING IN to loving them!
Thank you Lord for unity in the P-squad. Thank you for running + family.
Thank you for victory! We rejoice in You!
