DAD
Happy birthday to you!
If I were home I’d make you a pie,
But being on the race, I haven’t had much time.
Mailing a pie would be rather silly,
All the snow in Northern Maine would make it rather chilly.
Apples n’ cinnamon,
Vanilla ice cream too,
My, oh my, what shall we do?
Homemade crust carefully shaped and designed,
Once it’s finished it’s time to dine!
January comes but once in a year,
Just cause you’re getting old’ doesn’t mean you should fear!
If you doubled twenty and then doubled two,
One would find the age of you.

A kid at heart,
You’re rather smart.
A man of strength,
Who loves to pull a prank.
A voice of reason,
No matter the season.
A challenger of thoughts,
Ooh the lessons you’ve taught.
When it comes to laughter and support,
You’ve offered all sorts.

Now to close this great poem,
I just might have to phone…
Saying:
Have a rockin’ birthday…
I don’t know what else to say.
Eat a slice of chocolate cake,
And perhaps take mom out on a date!
Thank you dad for all that you do.
Know that here in South Africa…I’m thinking of you!
