Today our team received our first update email from Tony. If you don’t remember, Tony was our ministry contact in Honduras last month. He wanted to update us on the continued work which has been done in El Horno and Los Pinos since we’ve been gone. I wanted to share this with you because I think it is a great way for you to see God’s faithfulness and how He continues to move after seeds have been planted. To those of you who have/are supporting me throughout this year prayerfully and/or financially, know you are included in this season of reaping as well. You will definitely be blessed as a result of your decisions.
Luis, Tony, and Henry
Note: the incentive program on point 3 was funded by your donations! Our teams contributed $500 towards the incentive program for the boys, and food (point number 6) for their family.
Dear World Race Buddies for Life,
First and foremost – you do not and cannot truly understand how much so many of us already miss so many of you. It is amazing how the friendships grew so strong in such a short period of time. I want to personally thank each of you for giving so much of yourself to so many here. At the present time in our lives none of us fully understand the impact we continue to make in the lives we encounter. Especially in communities such as El Horno and Los Pinos. As a brother in Christ, I call each of you to pray for the lives of the people God put in your life.
I would like to also give a quick update of what has occurred since your departure:
1) Our ‘Family Day’, which you planned, was more than you would have ever imagined……not 30, not 50, not 70, not 100……but about 140 came to the farm. Not only did they come but each of them had so much fun. We had children, teens on bikes, men on horses and women with babies in arms. During our three hours together we offered cake walks, musical chairs with small prizes, two huge pinatas full of candy, games of tag and duck duck goose. Nidia opened and closed our time together in prayer. God is perfect! As this day was a perfect day in His name! Amen.
2) This Saturday we are offering a Nature Scavenger Hunt throughout the forest at the farm for the community of El Horno. Then on Sunday Pastor Jonny from La Roca (the church in Los Pinos) will join us at the farm. Pastor Jonny will be offering worship time with music and preaching a message on love for the community of El Horno at the bottom patio.
3) We have made a contract with each of the boys which will be enforced beginning on Monday November 8, 2010. Each boy has their name on our board. Next to their name is 12 boxes with each box representing one week. Each empty box can be filled with three stars: Blue Star – One week in full attendance at school, Yellow Star – Attending Sunday Service at La Roca, and Green Star – One week of being drug free. If they earn the three stars, I will personally drive them from their home to the farm for a Friday night full of food, games, movies and being together. If they are able have to complete four consecutive weeks they will earn a bicycle. And then we start over with a fresh month (4 weeks) earning another prize for their commitment to Christ, school and being drug free.
4) Lilian, the mom, has moved back home three days ago and left her abusive boyfriend.
5) This upcoming weekend the construction of the house for Lilian’s family will begin. Lilian continues to declare her new home to be a temple for God! She is already planning a fiesta to have within her new home!
6) We are continuing to offer seven pounds of rice and beans to the family each week.
7) Pastor Jonny has called me for two days straight to tell me all the boys are in school. I love that he is calling me. It is a demonstration of the both of us wanting a relationship.
Good Stuff, eh? God is perfect and good! Take Care and we would love to hear from you when you have the time to share what is going on in your lives.
We love each of you soooooo much!
