Earlier this week we had to decide who would be preaching a service in the poorest section of the barrio. God laid on my heart that I needed to share a little of my own story but at this particular time I thought it was more in line of my testimony (although I was a little confused over the part of the testimony He wanted me to share).

As I prayed more into it, I realized that I was actually getting a theme for a sermon about love and that I was supposed to be contrasting God’s love as a Father to my own earthly father.

God had given me three very distinctive points to cover and I was confident that God was using this to touch at least one person who would be there.

Now, as most of you probably already know my heart is for orphans. I can do children’s ministry at a drop of the hat and be fine with it, however, to preach to adults I actually spend a considerable amount of time with God figuring out exactly what He’s wanting me to say.

We had been to told to expect anywhere from 100 to 175 or more people depending on how many heard that the Americans would be there. But as we started the service, there were only a few adults and several children. (Apparently, we being Americans isn’t as big of a draw as they had thought.) During a last minute decision we decided to drop part of what we were doing and I needed to refigure what I was going to preach about since we had geared our service toward adults. Thankfully, God had already given me what He wanted me to share so all I had to do was scrap the details and go off memory and the Holy Spirit.

God as always was wonderful! We now have a new brother in Christ! He is 13 years old and very small for his age, possibly due to lack of food. (In the photo above, he is the boy next to the tree with his hands under his chin and in the top picture he is the boy moving the chair.) He has beautiful curly hair and even more beautiful eyes. Thank God for him and for allowing me to be a part of this boy’s life.
