One of the most common questions I get is regarding why I am going on the World Race. Everyone wants to know how God called me to it and what made me make the final decision to apply. The World Race is all about fulfilling the heart of God. Why would God NOT want me to go? Everyday you get up, spend time in prayer and meditation, worship, and community. Then you go and love the “least of these.” I’m talking about 11 months of your life devoted completely to Christ and the expansion of the Kingdom. There wasn’t a single point in time where I all of the sudden felt called to the Race, but it was rather a series of whispers from the Almighty over the course of several months. My mentor and friend first mentioned the 10/40 window to me a little over a year ago. For those who are unfamiliar, the 10/40 window is a term that refers to countries that are located 10 to 40 degrees north of the equator, across the top of Africa and south Asia. Ninety percent of the people living within the 10/40 window have never heard the Gospel and are also among the poorest in the world.

I first heard about the Race from a friend who had just returned home from the World Race. He had so many amazing stories and I just couldn’t get enough, but I thought I could never do it myself. I believed lies that God would never call me to something such as this. “I’m still in school,” I thought, “And once I get out I’ll be too busy working.” The Lord had a different plan. I continued working hard in school and then last September I met someone else who had also gone on the Race. He talked about how God used it not only to change the lives of others his squad helped, but also the lives of the Racers. At this point I was intrigued and expressed interest, but I didn’t act on it. I continued to come up with excuses. As the months went by, the Race kept coming up. I couldn’t go anywhere without someone bringing it up. I later heard there was an all-Asia route that would be going to countries within the 10/40 window.  This caught my attention and I began to consider it more heavily.

One day I had been in deep prayer and I began to read about Elisha and Elijah in 1 Kings 19:19-20. Elijah threw his cloak on Elisha, symbolizing that he had authority over him. Elisha then slaughtered his livestock, fed it to his friends and family, and followed Elijah. The story continued with both Elijah and Elisha showing great faith. The submission, faith and boldness of Elisha lead me to consider the World Race. I began to raise my expectations of what God will use me to do. I now know that through Him I will heal the sick and raise the dead.

I still need to raise over $16,000. Help me out by clicking “Support Me” on the left-hand side (3% tax charge) or by mailing the fundraising response card (located in my photos on the top lefthand side) to Adventures in Missions. All donations are tax-deductible.
