It has been a week and a half since I boarded my first flight. And I want to share with you what has been going on in my life. I landed in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic last Wednesday and for the next few days stayed at Casa San Pablo, a catholic church in the downtown area.
This is where our entire squad stayed as we had our launch training where we prepared to be sent out into our ministries for the month. This was a time spent in worship, prayer, fellowship, and teaching. A time to adjust to one another and continue developing friendships. After a few days of training, we were even able to spend a few hours getting away for a time of fun at the beach. The beach was called Boca Chica and is a very beautiful place.
So down to business…Monday morning our squad loaded up and headed out to our ministries for the month. 4 teams, including mine, are staying in a house in San Juan each working with a local pastor in the area. The other 3 teams are serving in the mountain villages in the San Juan area. My ministry for the month involves working with children, speaking during the nightly services, leading worship for the services, door-to-door evagelism (which is my favorite). And if you were wondering…no, I do not speak spanish. We’ve been communicating with the help of a man named Orviz, who makes his living as a translator.
That’s a little update on what’s been going on with me so far on the race. I would ask that you continue to pray for me and my teammates…that we would be bold in sharing the gospel and in building relationships in the village of Los Latas. Pray that the people would turn from their idols and look to Jesus for freedom, redemption, and hope in their lives. Again, I thank you for your support in this season of my life and thank you for choosing to come with me on this journey.
P.S. I tried to include pictures but the files we’re too big to load. So i’ll post a bunch to my facebook if you’d like to see where i’ve been.
