This name is first mentioned in Genesis when Abraham was about to sacrifice Isaac and God provided a ram instead so Abraham named that place Jehovah-jireh because God provided a ram in place of his only son as a sacrifice.

This past weekend on Saturday at Church the preacher preached about how God will provide when we are willing to sacrifice and obey God wholly. With this in mind Mindy and I headed to Batu Feringghi for the sidewalk bazaar there that is supposed to be a good shopping area.

We waited for the bus for a bit and arrived in Batu at around 8:30pm and figured we would get something to eat and then look around till about 10pm because we thought that the last bus headed home will be at 11pm so we wanted to give ourselves plenty of time.

At 10:15pm we were at the bus stop waiting and plenty of buses went by in the opposite direction, but none were coming by for the direction we wanted to go. We waited for about a hour and finally one bus came by but it was off and the driver didn’t stop. At this point it was over 11pm and we were getting worried. We talked about possible plans and ultimately we concluded that God will provide.

10 seconds or so after saying God will provide we are approached by an older Caucasian man and asked, “Do you need a ride into town?” We looked at him unsure how to respond because yes we did, but it is important to still be weary of strangers. He went on to say, “I overheard your conversation and I am getting a taxi into town that I will pay for, I was just wondering if you would like to share the taxi with me.” I believe Mindy and I were both thinking this guy seems harmless enough and we are so uncertain of when or if the bus will come that we didn’t want to keep waiting.

The guy said, “Think about it, I am going to G Hotel which is right next to Gurney Plaza.” Gurney Plaza is definitely a lot closer to home from where we were so we both were thinking this sounds like a good idea. So he waves down a taxi and walks to it telling us that we are welcome to join him. While he is talking to the driver Mindy asks the people around us at the bus stop when the bus would be coming and they said, “Maybe 12?” That wasn’t a definitive answer so we said, “Why not?” and got in the taxi.

Turns out this guy, Peter, is the VP of Marketing and Sales for a microchip company and he is only in Malaysia for a couple of days on business and he just so happened to have some free time and that is why he was in Batu otherwise he probably wouldn’t have been there to have dinner with a friend. He was super nice and we had a great conversation about the World Race and traveling all the way back to town to the G Hotel where he was staying.

When we got to the hotel he paid the entire fare to get us back home and when Mindy offered to chip in he said not to worry about it. The cab driver was also super sweet and we had a great conversation/history lesson on the way back to the apartment.

Overall, it was awesome how God provided in such an unexpected way and truly God is Jehovahjireh.
