So there comes a point(s) each month when we have to do laundry on the WR. This can be a crazy, fun, or a stressful day. It all depends on how you make it. For example you know it’s laundry day on the WR when….

  • You hear people from your team/squad asking each other where the bucket is. (Albania)
  • Others use 5 sinks to do their laundry and so you have a hard time finding just one (Albania)
  • You wonder how clean your clothes are really getting because you don’t have anything to scrub them on (Albania)
  • You dread going down the mountain to wash clothes because you don’t want to carry the heavy load back up the hill…so you wear the same outfit many, many times even if it does smell (Guatemala) – and yes you do end up throwing some clothes away at the end of the month
  • You hear people say that they have to many clothes – this is also heard the day we have to pack (every month)
  • You combine clothes with someone so that you can fill up a washer (El Salvador)
  • Laundry becomes a place to chat with everyone around you and sometimes you discover people are just hanging around even if they don’t have laundry (Honduras & Albania)
  • You have nothing left and you are repulsed by how dirty the clothes are (they have to be REALLY bad for a WRer to be repulsed by it) (Albania & Guatemala)
  • The only thing that is clean is a skirt and the sweatpants that you slept in…So you turn the skirt into a shirt by tying it with left over clothes line/string…true story…no I didn’t get a picture…but I did get compliments on my cute shirt lol (Albania)

    • Tip to future racers don’t wait to do laundry till you reach this point!
  • You hear cries from the hall “Does anyone have any detergent?” (Albania)
  • There is an option for a local to do laundry for you if you pay them…you know that person made bank (Honduras)

Contrary to popular belief laundry does not take all day to do if you set your mind to getting it done…it does take a while for it to dry however…

So there you have it – a funny short list of laundry day on the WR J Washing machines have nothing on us…but are nice to have 😉
