Why 3.5? Because our third Travel day was like our second. We got on a bus (on time!) and road it for about 7 hours. What was different was that once we got off the first us we got on a van for an hour to Antigua Guatemala!
We were there for 2 awesome nights! It was like Christmas! I got my own bed, shared a room with one other person, had warm(er) water, and saw a volcano shoot some lava into the air!
Ok so now on tp travel day 3.5 – Teams Z.E.R.O.H. and ROAR are together this month in a village near Coban Guatemala. So our journey to our ministry was not what we thought it would be.
We got everything packed on top of the van and jumped in. Before we had gone a block we had to stop because something fell off the top of the van…I think it was a sleeping bag…. Then what we were told was a 2-4 hour ride was really a 7 hour ride to the middle of nowhere! Beautiful area though! We turned off the main road on to this dirt road and at first we didn't think that the van could make it up becuase it wasn't moving. Thankfully it did.
Once we got to the village center we unloaded the van only to find out that we had to hike to the place we are staying at this month. No big deal because it was just 5 minutes up the little hill. WRONG! it was 30 min. up the other side of the mounain!
Then once we figured out where we were staying and were to put our stuff a few of us had to hike back down to the road to go into town for food. They were not back until after dark. So when they got back a few of us who stayed behind grabed out headlamps and hiked down to the road. At this point it's dark and there are about 6-8 of us, our contact, and the pastor unloading the car. When everything is in our arms we hike back up. But somehow I, along with 2 others, made a wrong turn somewhere in the dar and ended up on the other mountain. We could see the other team's headlamps across the way and kenw that we were lost. Thankfully the pastor was able to find us with ease and brought us back to the group where we made it to the house without anymore problems.
Travel day 3.5 was more eventful than all the other ones that we've had thus far! I'm glad I could share it with you all!
As a side note: I may not be able to post often this month because there is only once place that we have found internet in the town of Coban. But I will try and I do hope to post pictures at the end of the month during debrief. Pray for us this month! Pray that we don't get sick and that we can get easy access to water. That seems to be our main struggle the past few days. Thanks!
