My team (Malachi girls and Team Radiance) have arrived in Sisaket. We are staying with the Pharakan family. They are the only family in the entire village of 400 people that are followers of Christ. Upon arriving here after a nine hour bus ride, my group unpacked, took a nap, and got ready to start work the following day. During my four hour nap, I had five dreams in a row, which I believe was God speaking to me:

Dream #1:
There was a group of us dressed up as superheroes from Streetfighter and other comics and we were fighting off a group of “bad guys”.  I was Chung Li except instead of having her special kick, I had Wolverine’s claws in the form of swords. I was also throwing swords at my enemies. I believe this dream symbolizes my role to fight for His kingdom using His words as the Word of God is often referred to as a two-edged sword.

Dream #2:
I had a dream involving a ninja turtle when he was still a baby turtle. The rat told the turtle that he was ready to go off and fight bigger battles, but the turtle who was still small felt like he couldn’t and walked off grumpy. The master rat left and the baby turtle was left to fight growing up to be the ninja turtle. I think this symbolizes my feelings of inadequacy to live a life of faith. I feel that the more I pursue God, the bigger the task, the greater the risk, and the more faith required, which is overwhelming because I am so out of control. However, God is telling me to put away those feelings of inadequacy and just step into the battle because he says I am ready.

Dream #3:
I was walking around in this temple and I found a giant orange creature hidden beneath the surface of the ground. I was trying to make out what it was and thought it was an orange crab. It suddenly emerged from out of the ground and stood up. It was a huge orange elephant, but it had many tiny tentacles that you couldn’t touch emerging from right above it’s trunk. I wanted to get a picture of this massive spectacle which could talk even though I didn’t know what it was saying. When I was pulling out my camera, it began running away. There was someone running after it and I took a picture of both that person and the elephant. I went after them into another room. When I entered the other room, it had turned into a giant stone statue of an elephant in orange attire. I was really confused about this dream because who would dream of orange elephants. When I told Caitlin, she said the first thing she thought of when I spoke of the orange elephant was of Hinduism in Thailand and how the gods they chase after are merely made of stone.

Dream #4:
There was a giant anaconda snake trying to attack me. I was walking in a lake and it tried to wrap itself around me. I wasn’t scared, but I was wrestling with it. I can’t remember the rest of this dream, but I think it represents spiritual warfare that will be encountered with the forces of evil.

Dream #5:
In my dream, I was sitting next to a man who was trying to solicit a prostitute. He kept asking her to meet up that night and she said ok. After the woman left, he turns to look at me because I had been watching the transaction. He tries to attack me, but a group of people are with me to rescue me from his blow. I believe the couple represented human trafficking and the rescue means that there is strength with my team. Even though it seems hopeless at times and overwhelming because human trafficking is so prevalent, with a team, we won’t be knocked down by this issue. There aren’t brothels where I am at, but we do live among families in which daughters and mothers go into town secretly as prostitutes. Most of the women are driven there by poverty as means of easy money, receive promises of false employment with threats to their family, and are given away by parents as abandoned children. Most of what my team will be doing is investing in the girls and women here with a focus on prevention. We will also be serving alongside with Katy who is from Alaska and is only 22, but she has been serving in Thailand for the past three years with hopes of creating a better future for these women here.

Our God is such creative communicator, but we need to be attentive. Our ministry contact from last month, Peter spoke to us on hearing the voice of God. He said that God is always speaking, but often times we aren’t hearing properly. Peter said that like the radio, we need to be tuned into the right frequency to hear the voice of God. In 1 Samuel 3, Samuel could not recognize God when he was trying to speak to him, he needed Eli to help him. Increasing our intimacy with God increases our capacity to discern His voice.
