We were invited to visit the FPCT
Kihonda Student Centre, which was sponsored by Compassion
International. We had prepared a program for their students who enter
in as young as age three and can be involved till they are twenty
two. This program currently sponsors 286 underprivileged children,
half of whom come from Muslim backgrounds and many of the students
only have one parent or don’t have parents. Couples from the local
churches have adopted every single one of the children that don’t
have a parent to be their guardian. Kihonda provides these students
with physical (nutritional & medical) care, economic support (to
get through primary, secondary, and college), social programs (sports
and music competitions), and a spiritual environment (equipping every
student with a Bible and teaching them from the Scriptures). It costs
$18/month to sponsor a child to support them in these four main areas
that have just been listed. This organization is a beautiful picture
of what the church can look like back in America to take in children
into their homes and provide for them so that they won’t be
lacking. When these children move into one of the local church
members’ home, they call their new guardians mom and dad because
they have committed to raise them as their own. Orphans are not an
option.
