A porcelain doll

the world created

Sitting on a shelf

looking beautiful.

Hollow.

Heartless.

Dead on the inside.

Never to be on display.

Put on a mask

Save face

The only thing you need to perfect is your image

Look prettier

Look happier

Look lovelier

The sad truth is you will never be good enough

But don’t stop perfecting yourself.

Image,

that’s all you have,

you have nothing else to offer.

I believed it.

I fell into the trap.

I was sucked in.

That’s all I wanted

I wanted to be beautiful

I would do whatever it took even though I knew I will never reach it.

God picked me up

He loved me

He told me I was beautiful

He grew me

And the moment I was strong

He sent me crashing to the ground.

Shattering to pieces.

Helpless.

Slowly

He has rebuilt me

Changing my identity

Perfecting me every day

Becoming more and more the woman He’s made me to be

And the minute i avert my eyes from Him

I get wrapped up in the world.

Who am I according to the world?

And God reminds me,

you are not a porcelain doll anymore.

And He’s right,

I do not find my identity in the world.

I do not need to waste any more time striving for this deceiving perfection I will never reach,

God has made me perfect.

And a challenge for my followers:

Do you live sitting on a shelf looking pretty for the world?

Or do you walk confidently in the person God has handcrafted you to be?

Let God rock your world.

Let Him smash the identity you’ve always claimed

and let Him rebuild you.

I guarantee you it will be hard,

but it is beautiful.

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me in my mother’s womb.  I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” -Psalm 139:13-14

“You are altogether beautiful, my darling, there is no flaw in you.” -Song of Songs 4:7

“Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called.  Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth.  But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.  God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things- and the things that are not- to nullify the things that are” -1 Corinthians 1:26-28

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is- His good, pleasing and perfect will.” -Romans 12:2
