I love snow. Unfortunately, snow is a rare sight to see here in Alabama. In a typical winter, we may get a few flurries here and there. And if we’re really lucky, we may see up to a half an inch of snow on the ground! Pretty crazy stuff.
Well, this winter has been a little different from most.
In the past month, we have had two big winter storms (aka over 3 inches of snow each time). Basically a blizzard. The first one hit a few weeks ago and caused mass chaos in central Alabama. It was forecast to hit the southern part of the state, and by the time everyone realized it was coming farther north than expected, it was too late. The roads completely iced over within minutes, leaving many people stranded and unable to drive home. Lots of people had to abandon their cars and walk. It looked like the apocalypse. Lucky for me, I was at home the entire time. I work with an after school care program, so by the time I would have had to go to work, everything had shut down. But everyone who was out and about trying to make their way out of the cold had some kind of story to tell afterward. A common theme I noticed about many of the stories I heard was how people were going out of their way to help others. I heard about people doing everything from opening their homes to complete strangers, pushing cars out of the snow, giving their own coats and shoes to people walking down the road, restaurants giving free food and shelter, the list goes on and on. I loved hearing these stories because they are such great examples of selflessness and service to others, which serves as a great reminder of what the Gospel is all about.
Another theme I have seen throughout the past month is God’s provision. The first winter storm gave me 4 snow days, which was nice for a change. Well last week the second winter storm arrived, and with it arrived 4 more snow days for me. Great, except not. I was getting (more than) a little frustrated that the schools were closed all week because that meant I couldn’t go to work/make money. But God knew what was up. I got a last minute babysitting opportunity one day. Then, this past weekend I was paid to help clean out a family’s garage while visiting my cousin in Florida. Almost the same amount I would have made during those four days of work that I missed. God is good.
And all of this reminds me of the reason I am going on the World Race. I am so excited for the opportunity to serve and share the Gospel all over the world and to see God’s provision in all the places I will go.
On that note, I have been overwhelmed by all the support I have received so far. To all my supporters: thank you. I couldn’t do this without you. Your prayers and financial support are such a blessing. I still have a long way to go, but I have seen God’s provision at work and I am confident He will continue to provide. If you feel called to give, you can click the tab at the top of the page that says “support me” and it will direct you. Again, thank you so much!!
