It’s finally here! I am on the World Race!! I have taken lots of videos but don’t have strong enough wifi this month so stay tuned next month for videos from my first month.

Child Voice is an amazing NPO (non profit organization). They are huge on sustainability. The girls are here for 18 months with their children. They each have a small plot on the property where they grow their own vegetables. These vegetables are then sold to child voice for food and the girls get the money to put into savings. They eat normal ethnic food they would usually eat in their village.

No hand outs are given, some Ugandans see mazoongos (white people) and think money and what the get get from us white people. Child voice is trying to change that culture of what Ugandans think of mazoongos. The girls go through different skill classes such as catering, sewing, sweater weaving, hair, and business classes. They also get counseling due to all they have gone through from the war.

Some current students were captured as young girls and forced to be wives of officers in the LRA (Lords Resistance Army) resulting in having children in the bush while in the LRA. The rest of the girls although not captured were greatly effected by the war. Most people had to leave their tribes and go stay at the IDP (internally displaced person) camps in order to be safe and have food. Many people lived in these IDP camps for 10 plus years resulting in a loss of culture and skills to these northern Ugandan people.

Child Voice’s mission is to “restore the voice of girls silenced by war”.

I couldn’t have asked for a better first ministry month. With no electricity, running water or wifi it has been a hard detox for sure but extremely worth it. Please continue to pray for these girls and children as well as all the Ugandans effected by the war.
