After having friends start using essential oils and raving about them I decided to try them out myself.
I was lucky enough to have 4 oils donated, relaxation blend, lavender, peppermint, tea tree, by ESS aromatherapy. I have also bought a starter package from Young Living that comes with 10 oils/blends.
I brought the relaxation blend to training camp, and all I can say is WOW! As many of you racers or family and friends of races know training camp can get a bit overwhelming and stressful.
I applied the relaxation blend every morning and night before bed to the back of my neck and temples. It helped me relax and fill a bit at home plus it helped with headaches I had from coffee withdrawals (something I probably should work on before I launch).
After coming back from training camp I did some more research to see what oils would be the best to bring on the field. From my research I have decided on the following oils and heres why.
Peppermint– helps with nausea, car sickness, headaches, alertness and sinus issues, focus, soreness (carrying your 40 pound pack for miles) digestive support (strange food overseas)
Tea Tree– lice prevention ( a MUST! I’ll be applying it to my scalp after every shower) , antibacterial, helps with immune system, muscular pain, aches
Lavender– helps with stress, emotional balance, immune support, muscle pains, odors (smelly clothes that haven’t been washed in weeks and smelling shoes), aid for burns and bug bites
Relaxation Blend– helps with relaxation, sleep aid
Lemon– daily drop in water (helps feel a little like home since I have water with lemon everyday), helps with energy, circulatory support
With this being said I am no expert but after a good bit of research I believe these five oils will be a great aid to me on the field. It is my hope that future racers see this and try out some oils themselves to see what works best for them to possibly take on the field.
I will be launching in September and will be updating on how the oils work for me overseas.
