Obedience.

What is it about this word that makes me feel like I’m stuck in hot wax?

My mother’s told me time again “you were never the type of child that would obey anything from anyone without questioning it first.”

“Perhaps if I knew the reason why I was being asked to do something, I would feel more compelled to do it” I would say back.

But that’s just it isn’t it. God doesn’t separate our faith and our obedience. Rather, obedience sometimes separates us from how we feel and what we do in accordance to obedience.

I am still struggling with the type of person inside me that is asked to do a million and one things but takes a nap instead.

I can’t be the only one who is asked to eat her vegetables and grabs a piece of chocolate instead, can I?

I think the trick in understanding obedience is that first of all, it’s not a trick. God won’t tell us to do something that isn’t for our benefit.

More often than not we must obey first, and question after, if at all. And most importantly we must always remember that what God asks us to do is always better for us than what we were going to do before that.

Sometimes I AM the type of person that..

When I don’t feel like working out that’s when I hit the gym.
When I don’t feel like praying that’s when I get down on my knees.
When I don’t feel like working that’s when I stay late.
When I don’t feel like giving you the time of day, that’s when I lend you a hand.
And when I feel like giving up, that’s when I push on.

But sometimes I’m not either.

All in all, obedience is not without sacrifice, and it is sometimes how we feel that we must sacrifice in order to obey God.

But as I stated in my blog before this, success is not without sacrifice either, and our reward will always be greater than our sacrifice.

Knowing this, I find it a little more manageable to chow down on those brussels sprouts at the dinner table, just as much as I find it more enjoyable to pick up my Bible and do good..even when I don’t feel like it.

Because God is good. And we love Him.
