So I have been what I call lazy and not really written a blog in a while. I have a hard time feeling motivated to sit and write most of the time. But looking at a calendar I can hardly believe that I only have about two weeks left in Antigua. This month has been very different from last month and I have loved it here. There are three teams here and we are divided out into four different ministries. One group is working with the schools in the area teaching about dating and sex ed. The other group is split between the hospital working with cerebral palsy children and a nutrition clinic full of young children and babies. The group that I am with goes to Casa Maria, hogar de ancianos, which in English is an old folk’s home. It has been a bit challenging since only one of us in the group is fluent in Spanish. We have others that are pretty good at picking up the gist of what is being said and I have found that a smile goes a long way. We sing songs, play games, draw, play cards and just visit with the residents. It is nice to see smiles when we walk in the door and have started to learn their names. Our group has also been able to take friends with us and that has been fun. Will is a guy who is staying at the same hostel and has helped translate some for us at Casa Maria and in the market when we go shopping for food.

My team has continued to grow more comfortable with each other even though we still have seven different opinions on some things. Sometimes you need to shut your mouth and just listen while other times make your voice heard.

I am also learning that I will never dance if I don’t get out of my seat. It may be scary and I may feel like a fool but it is so much fun when you just let go. I am not great at it but as long as I keep pushing myself to try then it’s a start.
