It has been on my heart lately to write a blog thanking my parents for everything they have done for me and continue to do. As my time on the Race goes on I have come to realize that not only am I blessed with 2 great parents among the third world countries but also among the first world countries.
Dear Mom&Dad, thank you for….
Raising me in a Christian home
Sending me to a private school
Supporting me no matter what 100% in all the crazy things I choose to do
Taking me to more countries with you than states, so I could appreciate the world at an early age
Giving me the love of reading
Teaching me about fine things
Getting me interested in piano, skiing, basketball, running
Washing my car and filling up the tank every time I come home (Dad)
Getting me flowers on every occasion with a lovely card (Dad)
Always making me food when I’m home without having to ask
Paying for college, all 4 years including housing
Making sure I had a car since I was 16
Being a safe place to go no matter what
Always going to every single music competition
Watching my crazy fluffy Siberian Husky while I’m away
Staying up late and waiting for me, even now, even though you don’t NEED to!
Picking up the phone at 3 am when I forget what time it is in Michigan
Putting me first, always
Welcoming all my friends at any time into our home
Never saying a bad thing about anyone
Being hard workers, no matter what the job is
For being poised, having high honor, high integrity
For raising me in a home where I could always express how I felt about anything
Teaching me chess and trivia (Dad)
Teaching me to love others regardless of their educational background and race
Waste not want not (Mom)
Setting the example and the high standard of the man I should want to marry (Dad)
Making the best mexican food ever because that’s who we are (Mom)
Building a house that’s beautiful and big and cozy and welcoming (Mom&Tom)
Teaching me what the board of education is, haha (Dad)
Preaching to me when I don’t want to hear it
Coming to my rescue every single time no matter the situation
Teaching me the value of a dollar
All those parking tickets…..
The constant open door
The list could go on and on and on….
My parents are exemplary in every single way possible. It concerns me that when I get married and have kids that I will be hard pressed to be as great as a parent as my parents are to me. I don’t think my parents would say they did anything special or over the top, but I like that about them, they just do and constantly give, no matter their own financial situation. They refuse to be paid back and are just givers.
I love you Mom&Dad! I know I don’t say it nearly as much or as often as I should but you should know…. I think you’re the best parents in the entire world!
